3 Minutes to reflect
The famous investor Charlie Munger used to say, "Take a simple idea and take it seriously."
In business, simplicity is often key.
Consider the example of "affordable design furniture" – taken seriously, it can become something like IKEA.
Taking an idea seriously ultimately means saying no to hundreds of good, brilliant, and potentially amazing ideas that you will have.
Entrepreneurs, or at least their stereotypes, are often associated with creativity and being easily distracted, but the best ones are not.
Take Steve Jobs, for example, known for his strong focus. Jobs would challenge the head of design, Jony Ive, daily by asking him, "How many times did you say no today?"
2 Resources to pro level
Watch Jony Ive's 3-minute interview where he talks about focus. It's absolutely worth it!
“The discipline to turn your back on something you believe in passionately, so you can apply yourself to what's at hand, is really remarkable. It's a deeply uncomfortable but really effective thing to do. It's more than a practice, it's more than a habit...it's a really wonderful ability.”
If you have time during Easter, you should consider watching this breathtaking documentary about Jiro, a sushi master who devoted his life to the art of sushi. It showcases focus at its best.
