YouTube vs Netflix: The AI Shift
#76 Angelinvesting.it - From idea to Series A - Weekly Newsletter
Dear reader,
YouTube and Netflix are competing for our attention with different strategies.
With few exceptions, YouTube content is inexpensive. It’s created by 62 million creators who collectively get paid $25 billion annually from ads purchased by advertisers.
Netflix, on the other hand, produces content that is as costly as that of TV networks or the film industry. In the US, Netflix offers around 3.6k movies and 1.8k TV shows. To produce new content, Netflix invests approximately $13 to $17 billion per year in carefully selected content producers.
Until now, I’ve considered Netflix and YouTube to be complementary. On YouTube, you watch content from your favorite creators, primarily on mobile devices. On Netflix, you watch an episode (or two) of a series in the evening, sitting on the couch.
However, due to advancements in AI, this dynamic is about to change. The 60 million+ YouTube creators now have tools to produce high-quality content at very low costs.
This will empower a vast number of creative minds to produce quality series without the gatekeeping of traditional producers who decide what the audience will like.
The audience will decide directly, and the creator-audience relationship is about to evolve to a new level. YouTube is in prime position to capitalize on this shift.

TikTok's new Symphony Digital Avatars, made completely with AI 🤯
THIS IS NOT A REAL PERSON… It’s TikTok's new Symphony Digital Avatars, made completely with AI 🤯 These are generative AI avatars of real people which gives brands a whole new realm of opportunities on the platform.
Currently there are two types of avatar options:
Stock Avatars - these are pre-built avatars created using paid actors that are licensed for commercial use. These avatars come in a range of backgrounds, nationalities and over 30 languages.
Custom Avatars - These are made to represent a creator or brand spokesperson that allows multiple language abilities. What’s wild, is they can literally create an AI avatar that looks exactly like you but can speak way more languages!
These language translations are built through TikTok’s Symphony AI Dubbing software, with their goal being to break down language barriers between countries and allow content to scale worldwide.
So instead of spending time sitting on TikTok Live selling to your followers, you can now get your Digital Avatar to sell 24/7 on the livestream.
